TIM McNAMARA

Inducted January 1981

Born into a musical family near Orange NSW in 1922, Tim McNamara was a young cowboy who sang with a warm, mellow voice. A win on Australia's Amateur Hour brought work on radio and hall shows, and in 1948 he recorded for EMI. From 1949, his famous 2SM radio show gave enormous exposure to young artists with the associated talent quest in 1951 packing Sydney Town Hall. In 1950 he signed with the Rodeo label moving to Festival in 1956, returning to EMI for one album in 1971, and another for Picture Records in 1974. Tim is remembered as much for his promotions as for his considerable talent, so evident in Campfire Of Dreams. Tim died in 1983.
