EGAN
Inducted January 1995
Folklorist, raconteur, recording artist
and performer Ted moved to the Northern Territory in 1949. After
25 years in the public service, he turned his storytelling talents
into a musical career resulting in more than 25 albums since
1969. As well as his performing and songwriting, Ted has presented
a number of television specials over the years, including This
Land Australia and The Great Outdoors. He has written four books
and a play, and is now launching into production of a new movie
based on one of his best-known songs, The Drover's Boy.
Awarded the Order of Australia in 1991 for services to Aboriginal
people, Ted is an Inaugural Life Member of the Australian Stockman's
Hall of Fame and won the 1989 Northern Territory History Award.
In January 2000 Ted won his first Golden Guitar for Video Clip
of the Year wth The Drovers Boy.
