Slim is known to millions of Australians as the country music writer and artist responsible for the classic Australian comedy song Redback On The Toilet Seat, recorded and released in March 1972 to unprecedented mass popularity.
West Australian born, Slim Newton is steeped in the tradition of authentic Australian country music.
Moving to Tamworth in 1971 to record with Hadley, Redback was the first of many recordings by this well-known country music artist who continues to perform to this day now well into his 70s.
Redback On The Toilet Seat became an instant pop hit for Slim, selling more than 100,000 copies in Australia and New Zealand.
It earnt him three gold records, won the first “top selling” Golden Guitar in 1973, has been covered by many artists and used in commercials and films.
Over the years, Slim has made numerous recordings, toured and performed constantly.
But it is Redback that changed his life, from an unknown singer and composer to a recording celebrity who will always be remembered as the creator of one of Australia’s greatest country hits.
Slim is the 38th inductees to Australia’s highest country music honour.
