DUSTY RANKIN
Inducted January 1996

One of Australia's pioneer country music artists, Dusty (real name Roger Hogan) appeared on Australia's Amateur Hour in 1946 and maintained an active career through to 1961 when he returned to working the farm full-time.

Born in Birchip, Victoria, on January 8, 1924, Dusty made his first recordings for Regal Zonophone in August, 1948, after performing on Australia's Amateur Hour and doing a year's touring with Skuthorpe's Rodeo.

He was one of the most popular country artists of the time, attracting a high regard for his rich, resonant voice and quality of songwriting, complementing these characteristics with a beautifully controlled accompaniment of his dobro guitar.

Dusty toured extensively and enjoyed immense popularity with many of his songs becoming standards of the time. He continued to record until the 1980s on a number of labels, including Colombia, Hadley and Selection Records.
